museum Exhibition & experience
I spent 7 years in UI/UX design, interaction design and strategic exhibition development. I led the digital design and development of permanent and temporary exhibits at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia
DESIGN FOR PEOPLE
As part of several multidisciplinary exhibit teams, I had the privilege of working with scientists, educators, artists, writers, and graphic, software, hardware and experience designers to create meaningful, educational and enjoyable experiences for visitors. I spent 4 years at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia as a media developer and exhibit designer.
PROCESS
I followed the development of interactive experiences from scientific research through concept to prototype to visitor testing to documentation, fabrication and installation. Our small in-house design team was centered around primary design research to create cohesive visitor experiences. I led the digital UI and UX design process. I created wireframes and storyboards using Illustrator, inDesign and Sketch to communicate a complex experience to our team and to visitors.
bEYOND PROTOTYPING
In-house design teams are rare in non-profit museums so we were able to hone our process to address constraints like attention fatigue before final designs were implemented. We developed 4 full-scale 3000+ sq ft exhibits and many smaller temporary gallery experiences. This led to a cohesive understanding of the industry, which we turned into strategic plans for future exhibits. (see Conceptual Exhibits)
TAKEAWAYS
My tenure in exhibition design allowed me to explore the cutting edge of technology and digital influence and the cultural value of public institutions. I learned the power of objects and information, and I learned that my best skills are in research and analysis of complex topics and crafting strategies to solve real world problems.
