SportsZone
SportsZone is a core exhibit at The Franklin Institute science museum. While my title there was a technical one – I developed electronics and software for exhibitry – I was a multifunctional asset to the Exhibits department. Our team had diverse backgrounds in education, design, engineering and visitor engagement in order to hone ideas, prototype and test experiences with visitors, then work with fabricators to finalize exhibition quality products. Our goal was 22 interactive exhibit components that cohesively told a story about science and filled out a fun, memorable, educational experience to inspire children of all ages and their parents.
My role shifted from a technical developer to running interactive user testing, finding resources and partners for fabrication, crafting storytelling elements of the exhibit, documenting iterative work and researching new methods of public interaction. My time there opened my eyes to the grand effects design can have on people. Most of our experiences are designed and prototyped in-house to ensure quality of experience and educational value, which is a rare luxury in today's museums.
